Relaunched to commemorate the April 26, 2005 release of Fisher’s new album The Lovely Years!

It’s not too often that a singer inspires me
to create a fan site.  In June 1999, one Kathy Fisher
did just that.  This is the “First Official FISHER Fan Site”.
I’m Brian and I hope you’re as impressed with this “shrine”
as I still am with Kathy’s outstanding vocal stylings.

Fisher The Band

The talented souls behind the sounds: primary vocalist Kathy Fisher, the gorgeous brunette with the sultry voice and fantastic lyrical sense; and Ron Wasserman, the man at the helm who composes and arranges most of the music, programs, and plays keys, with the occasional background vocal.  Other talented musicians join in occasionally, including the talented Jim Cush on guitar, who also has toured with the main duo quite often.

The first on-line appearance of Kathy.Fisher has been making great “artistic pop” music for years.  Their first appearance was Track 12 on the Great Expectations soundtrack, a beautiful song called Breakable.  They recorded and released their indie debut album One not too long after that.  It sold copies through the only prospective means available for them at the time: on-line.  They managed to garner an impressive response from the now-defunct mp3.com and did plenty of gigs, mostly around Southern California.

The shows they did showcased all the strengths that make the team stand out: from their ability to carry an audience with Kathy’s powerful, throaty melodies, in slow, lyrical ballads with a piano; to the all-out, edgy, and kick-ass ability to rock the house, electric guitars erupting and Kathy’s soul-defeating wail marking Fisher’s rightful place with the best rock-chick-fronted bands anywhere!

Before long they were signed to an actual (albeit, still indie) label and rerecorded many of One's tracks again, adding some new songs.  This solid collection was released as the album True North through retail outlets everywhere.  It sold as well as the stores could keep the shelves stocked, which was unfortunately less than fully impressive, but it did not matter.  Fisher’s on-line success grew with their fan base.  Their song I Will Love You (included on One and True North) got national radio air-play and was downloaded an exorbitant amount of times.  The people who wanted True North would find it!  The effect of getting Fisher’s music was akin to religious.

They played more kick-ass shows, and did lots of Borders Books & Music appearances, and signed copies of the album, and found more and more people who had become fans, solely on the strength of I Will Love You.  The label that had supported them, however, fizzled out of existence.  Instead of actively looking for another label, the team went ahead and kept doing what they do best: they made music!

As a tribute to their true feelings toward their fans, they recorded in an impressively bold move (without the backing of a major label) a double-album called Uppers & Downers.  It included 23 all-new recordings, featuring a cover of Aerosmith’s Dream On and a full version of their L-O-V-E spot used in PT Cruiser commercials.

Kathy’s voice has been heard in many television commercial campaigns.  The most recent “jingle”, for the Toyota Avalon, is (in its full version) the lead single from Fisher’s new album, The Lovely Years.  This album hit stores in April 2005 and, surely, their gigs and appearances (and just plain awesomeness) will increase their fanbase yet again, and exponentially.  Good luck to them!  It’s all about the music!

I love this shot.

“That’s all well and good, but who are you?”

What a fine question.  Glad you asked.  My name is Brian Weidemann and I’m a musician, artist, website hobbyist, and full-on Fisher fan.  I created this website as perhaps a “shrine” to Fisher (both the woman herself, and the band).  I’ve loaned my talents to their support and this website is the least I can do to have something really tangible to show for it.

I’ve met both Ron and Kathy several times, and seen a great number of shows at various local venues; be they the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd. or the Borders Books & Music down the street.  Full band, or a mic & keys alone, Fisher rocks.

After close to six years, this website finally got its first makeover.  So, behold incarnation #2 of the First Official Fisher Fan Site.
