If you haven’t seen it, it’s new to you …

There hardly needs to be a lengthy introduction to the concept of old news.  But, of course, I’ll give one anyway.  If you have not, for some reason, been around or missed past entries to the Home page of updates, they will be listed here, pretty much as they originally appeared the first time around.

I know, I know.  But you don’t have to thank me.  To follow chronologically, go to the bottom and read entries upward.  Many references will be easier to understand that way.

What, you think I have updates?  Well, actually, my recording process has officially kicked off.  Sure, I’ve been writing, composing, arranging, and orchestrating all this time, but not until the other night did I actually lay down some tracks.  What have I been waiting for?  First, I need to have a tune fairly sequenced before I have something to track along to.  Second, I have to have fresh sounding axes.  Well, Amy & Amber’s “evil twin”, the kick-ass-hard-rock version, called Amber & Amy got its drum tracks, fills, organ, bass, and synth-brass parts all complete and MIDI’fied around a week ago.  And then I put a brand new set of D’Addario’s on the Gibson.  The official first guitar parts have been recorded!

And from the way it sounds, I don’t think I could close the album with a more rockin’ tune.  Now I’m all psyched to finish this thing!

In other news, I have found Guster has a MySpace page, too.  If I keep finding legitimate, big bands on there, they’re going to fill too many slots in my Friends list; so I'm sticking just to the most awesome amongst them.

In conclusion, and to wrap up these two unrelated items, I just want to note that when I was winding those wires around the tuning pegs, I had Guster’s song Amsterdam stuck in my head.  “These days I’m changing all my strings.”

In the long-standing tradition of guitarists having, at some point in their career, an album with a cover depicting a hot chick holding (or any seductive variation thereof) a sleek guitar, I present the most likely candidate for gracing the front of my seventh CD.  And, for those who haven’t heard, which is nearly everyone who knows me through this site exclusively, the new album title (with a 95% chance of still remaining the title when everything’s been recorded) is Heavy On The Whatnot.  Thanks to Rich for the quip.

And here, in by no means definitive order, is the current, working track-listing for HOTW.

1) Amy & Amber  2) Sold My Soul  3) Except For You  4) Dysfunctional  5) If You Agreed  6) Muddled  7) Thorn  8) Unsettling  9) Hammered  10) You’re That Kind of Girl  11) MetaSong  12) Self-Control  13) Amber & Amy

Yes, you read that right.  I absolutely plan on recording two versions of Amy & Amber, a softer, orchestrated version and a hard-ass, slap-you-in-the-face, rock n’ roll version!  Which one will be better?  There’s no way to choose, so it’s perfect, seeing as the song is about not being able to choose between two hot, 19-year-old co-workers.  “If I ever chose, then each would betray me.  In either case I’m cursed.  So, if Amber can’t come first, then neither will Amy.”

Okay, so I’ve been neglecting this site.  So what.  I’ve been hard at work learning the in’s and out’s of the Korg.  I’m all about making my own Programs and Combinations now!  You don’t even know how cool I am.  In related news, I’ve been learning Tori Amos songs.  Unfortunately, this requires more effort on my part than merely reading from store-bought sheet music.  Which sucks.  Who wants some unknown transcriber’s wishy-washy watered down version of SOME of what she plays?  I don’t.  I want to play what SHE plays in the darned recordings!  Anyway, Winter and  Precious Things are totally my bitches!  Oh, and in subsequently related news, here’s a new Tori.  I rule!

Behold, the official first teaser from my upcoming album, as yet untitled.  I suppose it could be somehow clever to call the album As Yet Untitled or Title To Be Announced, but I think I could do better.  I mean, that just seems so predictable, coming from me, doesn’t it?  I could steal a title, perhaps.  Discourse On Method, or, the long-awaited Being & Nothingness.  Then there’s the parody route.  The Lion, The Witch, & The Candlestick Maker would be cute.  Better yet, I just make up something random, site some obscure inside reference that only myself and one other person know about!  Ah, that’s it!  Sparky McDumbass & The International Poets of Merit: The Turing Test of Romantic Feasibility.

(Actually, this could just be the new incarnation of The E-Monks’ musical career!)

Oh, but on to the teaser.  Here is a rough, haphazard, and abridged performance of the piano part to Amy & Amber.  Like I’ve said, this album will be awfully keyboard-heavy.

Oh, there’s so much to say!  New drawing in Artwork.  Relaunch of Number 12.  And much more.  Well, not really.  I guess just those two things.

In other news: there are two things that everyone must do.  First, buy Ben Folds’ new record, Songs For Silverman, because it blows away his previous one, which blows me away; meaning, by inference, that his new record either meta-blows me away, or just blows-me-away-squared.  Second, go see The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, in theatres now.  I don’t care if it’s good or not, it’s going to be good either way!  So there.  Two imperatives.  I’m out, yo!

As if you were really desperate to keep yourself informed of my up-to-the-minute activities, here’s Disposition Monitor “LIVE!”, complete with updates every forty-two minutes of me, my room, the parking lot outside my window, whatever objects I put in front of the cam, or just about who knows what else.  Don’t get too stalker on me, now.  Depending on the feedback, I just may have to make this a pay service.  (Just kidding.)

April 15, 2005

I think I’m forgetting something today.  Oh well, trying to recall what it is is too taxing at the moment.  Maybe it’ll come to me tomorrow.  (Okay, I used that joke for the past three years  … so sue me!  Or, rather, audit me!)

The new album has a little progress.  Nothing has been recorded yet, but expect lots of non-guitar fleshing-out of the whole fabric of my “guitar-driven” musical direction.  I may have said this before, too, but I’m going to get a little too happy with Wurlitzer, piano, strings, orchestral brass, and synthesizer.  That is, if I don’t keep myself in line.

For fans of my visual handiwork updates: Alison Krauss.

March 19, 2005

I added a new Jennifer Garner to Artwork and that’s about it.  As you can see, the Disposition Monitor is in full swing.  My latest album is now in the just-give-it-away-to-whomever-wants-it stage.  I’ve got plenty of new songs’ lyrics written, including those for: Dysfunctional, The Conversation, and the collaborative Satellite, which was conceived by my good friend Rich and fleshed out by myself.  I am fully in love with the fictional character Dawn Tinsley.  I downloaded a Guinness screensaver from their website.  There is going to be so much piano, keyboard, organ, strings, etc. on my next album … I just have to compose it.  My Boss pedal board is now complete with the SUPER OverDrive SD-1.  Pictures coming soon of my new computer workstation setup, and the official unveiling of the World Bri’ed Records Headquarters: The Avocado Street SoundStation Recording Hall (which, for those of you really paying attention, are basically synonymous).

February 18, 2005

Every time I throw in Ben Folds Rockin’ The Suburbs I’m just blown away.  Every time.  The title track is fun, but it is far from the best showcase of his songwriting.  I wish I had his piano chops and his sheer ability to write such emotion into lyrics.  One day I will write my own The Luckiest and call my “career” complete.  His new solo album Songs For Silverman is due out April 26.

But, as for updates into my own musical endeavors?  The following songs are, to varying degrees, in the proverbial works: Loathe And Behold, Except For You, The Thorn, The Taming of Time Sold My Soul, The Inevitable Deterministic Love Song, If You Agreed, You’re That Kind of Girl, Metasong, and Putz.

You may notice that I’ve removed every single mailto: from the hyperlinked Contact Us buttons on this site!  I’m sick of all you “spiders” and “bots” ruining my nice gesture of easy contact buttons by flooding me with spam e-mail the day after I change an address, or whatever.  Besides, nobody e-mails me anyway.

The next time someone actually wants to contact me, they can TYPE IT themselves!

By the way, Happy Birthday David, if you ever happen to read this!

The new feature of the website: The Disposition Monitor.  In a desperate attempt to add content to this website with the appeal of the masses, I’ve made a decision against my will (figure that one out, you anti-determinists!) to incorporate the one feature that my site seems to be last to catch on to.

In other news, I did some more swiping.  My Guitar Center card garnered another item to its statement’s billing summary.  I am now the proud owner of the Blue Sky MediaDesk 2.1 studio monitor system.

I added a slew of crap to my Book, CD, and DVD sections; as it’s been a small eternity since I updated them.  Among the noteworthy, I am now a true and devoted fan to Alison Krauss.  Union Station and their bluegrass do kick some ass, but Alison is everything I want in a woman … and, for the time being, I’ll just listen to her voice with headphones.

January 18, 2005

Here we are, folks!  Read my latest blog to catch up on some of the latest updates.  There is, however, one thing I neglected to post there.  I no longer have long hair!  Yes, that’s right: the Long Hair Phase is officially over … a good two albums past due!  Well, what are you going to do about it?  Nothing.

Gotta love Smart Blur! The only other thing I have to mention here is the introduction to my penultimately newest technological acquisition (the ultimate newest thing, the one picked up today, will be dealt with in an upcoming entry).  I’m referring, as you can see, to my nice new webcam; a fine gift from my father, for Christmas.  It will be used for the content of what soon will be the latest feature of this site.  Hmmm … you can just guess the potential, right?

Songs To Download, Listen To, And Then Delete

Since I’ve been recording for many years, I have seven albums of material.  This site has many clips and songs available for download on the Music and Albums pages, but here, for your convenience, is a good helping.
