If you haven’t seen it, it’s new to you …

There hardly needs to be a lengthy introduction to the concept of old news.  But, of course, I’ll give one anyway.  If you have not, for some reason, been around or missed past entries to the Home page of updates, they will be listed here, pretty much as they originally appeared the first time around.

I know, I know.  But you don’t have to thank me.  To follow chronologically, go to the bottom and read entries upward.  Many references will be easier to understand that way.

Out of the loop?  Check the archives of Old News!

December 12, 2004

New sidebar (with snazzy, flashy mouse roll-over effects!) and organized Old News page.

December 11, 2004

Guess what!  Two more.

Also: My years of eBay addiction have come finally to mean something.  At last I own the one item, copies on which I’ve incessantly bidded for what seems to be eons.  I have acquired the increasingly out-of-print They Might Be Giants “The Guitar (The Lion Sleeps Tonight) featuring Laura Cantrell” EP.  As if I didn’t already: I rule!

December 6, 2004

It has come to my attention, since she told me herself, that the lovely Sommer has, on occasion, kept up to date (well, relatively) with the worldbri.com happenings.  For those who don’t know, remember, or care; song number 10 on Hand Gestures & Sarcasm (the ever-popular Sommer Nights) was totally for her.  She’s read the lyrics, but has yet to hear the tune.  Anyway …

Hi Sommer!!!  You miss me?  I’ve certainly missed you.  Drop me a line, sometime.  I’d love to take you to dinner one of these nights, perhaps.  Are you liking the CD?  Write me, please …   I’ll get it, trust me.  Send me two.  Any?  I need attention!!!

But for the rest of you … are you enjoying your stay?  I have been doing one drawing per workshift since the recent Lisa Loeb, and they’re in Artwork.  So, what do you think of the Records site?

December 1, 2004

I drew!!!  It’s been over a year, methinks, since my last portrait.  I got all psyched up and went to Aaron Bros. the other day, with the intent of investing in a new pad and a decent set of art pencils (the damn 8B lead keeps breaking on me!) to keep me going for a while.  My latest drawing has just been added to Artwork.  I forgot I loved it so much.

Also, I added a Stock Tips page to World Bri’ed Records.

November 30, 2004

It is with a smirk on my face that I find myself pleased to announce the official unveiling of the World Bri’ed Records corporate site.  Welcome to the World Bri’ed Ltd. family of on-line brilliance and merriment!  (Be sure to read everything the two pages have to offer!)

Also, with the fall of the inmyhead.net servers, I have been forced by my own free will (the jury’s still out on that one, actually) to bring home the Tori Amos and Fisher websites I’ve been hosting for years.  Welcome to the worldbri.com domain, girls!

We’re all a great, big, diverse, ultimately pointless, yet happy-to-be-together family.  Coming soon, a long-needed maintenance job on this, the main site.

October 25, 2004

So either I need more medication, or less.  E-mail me with your vote.

[editor’s note: The lyrics to a new song have been deleted, for the purpose of making those who missed out feel bad about their not being up-to-date with the lyrical greatness.]

October 20, 2004

It’s true!  Copies of my new album have been selling like hotcakes!  In other words, absolutely no one wants to order them on-line for ten bucks each, and likely never will.

In related news, I just wrote the lyrics to another fine song, to be included on my next album.  The song: The Inevitable Deterministic Love Song.  The album: Idiosyncratic Syntax.  The release date: Like any of you give a shit!

Maybe I’ll work on my instrumental stuff, perhaps put out my long-overdue techno album.  Yeah, that’s what I’ll do next.  Y’all won’t have to tolerate my lack of singing ability any longer (not that any of you are jumping at the chance to tolerate it now!) … in fact, I’ve already got a title: Coma of Dreamy Sleepytime.  Catchy, eh?

October 11, 2004

I’ve been thinking I should really stop sitting on my ass lately.  It’s been so long since my last album that it is time I really started concentrating on my next one, so I’ve been having that itch to get back into the studio.  I have about ten songs’ worth of lyrics I could work on, and that’s a bit of a head start.  Anyway, I wrote a new one today.  I like it.

Oh, and by the way, Warning: May Contain Nuts, if you can’t tell by all the new snazzy graphics and BUY NOW buttons around the site, is now available for purchase.  But I’m over it … I’m ready to start working on something fresh!

October 8, 2004

It is official.  I spent way too much time (but just quite enough) last night re-mastering the album.  I ended up having to re-mixdown about half the songs, and I even added a few new surprises to tracks you may have heard or downloaded already, since I had the opportunity to fine-tune/fix certain things.  The versions on this album are NOT the same mixes as any .mp3 available here (and I’m going to keep it that way, as a bonus for people who buy the album, for instance … hint, hint).  The trip to Kinko’s is tomorrow for all remaining artwork printing (it’s good to have “connections”) and, soon thereafter, this site will have all the necessary updates to reflect WMCN’s completion and availability.  No CafePress, not immediately anyway.  This one will be a drop-$10-into-my-PayPal-account-and-I’ll-mail-you-one deal.  Don’t worry, though, these will look more professional than the job CafePress did on my copies of Hand Gestures & Sarcasm, so you’ll be good & pleased.

October 5, 2004

I’ll give you one guess why I’m happy right now.  About five minutes ago, the first copy of Warning: May Contain Nuts in its entirety was burned to disc.  As of now, it is a test disc.  I have to sample it around in several players, in my car, and check if my mastering job was horrible, or merely mediocre.  Adjustments are still possible, so I can’t claim that it’s completely done yet … but, for all intents and purposes, my sixth album is DONE!!!

Oh, and while you’re asking about samples … here’s the last teaser (320 kbps) that I promised I wouldn’t give you.  What, you were expecting a whole song or two to download and enjoy?  No way, man.  This is a clip or two from every credited song on the album, all crammed into a two-minute medley, and fairly roughly, too.

September 25, 2004

One more song in the can, and one more to go!  Here is the last teaser you will get from me (at least before the album is completed and available for purchase) … here is a short, instrumental excerpt from Altruistic Blame, featuring the song’s string quartet, orchestral snare drum, and bass guitar parts; all compliments of my Korg Triton (well, I had to perform and/or sequence them, but you know what I mean).  These patches sound really nice, and when you eventually hear all the guitars layered on top of this stuff, you’ll probably understand why I love recording so much.

Even with the hidden track, this album is only going to be short: about 42 minutes long.  I don’t want to hear any complaining, though.  After all, how many of your favorite artists put out a new album every 10 to 12 months?  Hmmm?  I didn’t think so.

September 17, 2004

The legend that is Blow Me, Wendy has been recorded.  It will be the uncredited hidden track on Warning: May Contain Nuts and you will have to buy the album to hear it.  No teasers.  Honest.  But trust me, it will be worth buying the album for that song alone!

Also, check out the newly implemented feature of this site: the “Phrases, Keywords, and Other Search Strings” page.

September 7, 2004

To commemorate my acquisition of the Korg Triton Le-88, I finally made the equipment page for my workstation home studio.  Bri’s Place Recording Facilities.

Also, I now have a g-mail account!  Talk to me at fillertrack[at]gmail.com.

September 6, 2004

Hey, folks.  We’re going to play a game to test your skills of observation.  Here we go.  These two pictures, A and B, are alike in almost every way.  They both depict my bedroom studio workstation (yes, where all my music is recorded).  There is one difference between the two pictures, however.

Can you spot the difference?

I’ll give you a minute to look them over.  Look hard, now! … okay, time’s up!  The correct answer (yes, that’s right!) is that, in Picture B, you cannot see my Fender amp, nor can you see any of my pedal effects board.  Thanks for playing.

Okay, you’re right.  You caught me.  There’s a second difference between the two pictures … the chair is swiveled a little clockwise in B.

August 17, 2004

There once was a time when I had trouble getting the “feel” for odd and/or changing time signatures.  When I really gained an appreciation for them, I started writing them into a lot of my stuff.  I just completed Thief last night, a cool minor-key rocker in 6/8.  The bridge shifts to 5/8, with a bar of 4/4 embedded therein.  Try that without missing a beat!  Remarkably, I pulled it off without even practicing.  I rule!  And because you all love me, here’s the first minute or so.

Also, here is a random idea thing that might go somewhere in Warning: May Contain Nuts if I can fit it somewhere cool.

August 9, 2004

As predicted, I’m quite tired of Spiderman 2.  Don’t get me started.

Five songs are done.  I may remix Distraction, though, but Woman’s Inhumanity To Man came out perfectly!  It’s everything I could have hoped for; complete with a strong vocal performance, and a great string arrangement (let me tell you, these SoundFonts are pretty cool)!

I also dropped another $300 this week to the accounts of Musician’s Friend.  Amongst my new toys are a Boss CS-3 Compression Sustainer (which I don’t know how I ever started recording without one) and an Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi!!!  Oh, yes.  It’s really called a Big Muff Pi.

In other news, I recently got back from a trip to Vancouver, Washington; just outside of Portland, Oregon.  Portland is home to Powell’s Books.  Really, nothing more need be said.  My wallet was many, many $20’s lighter when I left.

July 24, 2004

Have you seen Spiderman 2?  Yes?  So have I.  Have you seen Spiderman 2: The IMAX Experience about 30 times?  No?  Well, I will have in about two weeks!

On the album front, I wrote my hidden track!  It’s a doozy!  My roommate has been on my case for years to write the sequel to Fuck Me, Cheryl.  Well, I did it.  Happy Kevin?

July 20, 2004

I have joined Myspace.com twice.  The first time was as a general user.  And then they got their music section up and rolling, so I joined again as a band.  You are welcome to visit myspace.com/bri to visit my page and stream/download four songs.  I’m not going to tell you that this is the only place you can hear the premiers of What The Hell and Split in their final versions.  So don’t go and expect … oh, shit.

July 13, 2004

And two more tracks are in the can … or they would be if they were on film.  Since they are instead strings of on’s and off’s as stored on magnetically charged media, they are … uh, well, they’re just done.  Alright?  You don’t get teasers of Wooden Duck or Split, so just don’t even think about asking.  Not yet.

July 12, 2004

I wrote two new songs in the past few days, one of which is definitely going on the new album.  I just have to finish the music for it and it will be quite an addition.  It’s called Woman’s Inhumanity To Man and the first verse is as follows:

I tried to be impressive with a prefix, once or twice.
She said I must have more seductive things in mind.
I said she’d be surprised if such a suffix would suffice,
But then she liked a man who did it from behind.–©2004 Brian M. Weidemann

I suppose it can be noted that this is the first trace of what basically are “punchline” lyrics in the new album (oh, but just wait until y’all hear What’s My Sine?)  Thank you to my bestest friend Gina for the real-life discourse which was its inspiration (the verse, not the song in general), long ago when we were dating.  It was her wit in there; I just added the rhymes and poetic flow.

July 3, 2004

Yes, it’s just like me to wait months and months, and then spurt out the updates every day or so, so you only catch the first one, don’t check back for a while, and then have to catch up!!!  But I digress (hey, it was an introduction … from what was I digressing?).  As it stands now, here’s how the album is going:  Well.

Actually, I added in the side-bar there the current status.  And I intend to update it as necessary to let all three of you know how much longer you have to wait not to buy it anyway.

July 1, 2004

Oh, look at that, I missed the whole month of June.  Noteworthy events: we opened up Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: The IMAX Experience early in the month (and I’ve now seen it about 75 times … ugh!) and toward the end of the month I celebrated my birthday with the help of close friends, ringing in the big 27 with a river of Guinness (hey, it was my birthday, so I can mix my metaphors to my heart’s content, thank you very much … so what if rivers don’t ring!)

Oh yeah, and I got a new car!

“What the frick about the new album?” you may ask?  It’s coming along.  Early estimates of a Fall 2004 release are still likely, although later estimates of a “by August 1st, darnit” release are right out!  I did write another set of lyrics, though.  There’s no stoppin’ me!

May 28, 2004

I’m hard at work on the new stuff!  Oh, yes!  Here are some rough, quick mix-downs of the instrumental parts of What The Hell and Distraction.  If ever you were to notice the Tom Scholz influence in my musical sensibilities, you would definitely have a hard time not noticing it throughout DistractionIT’S TOTAL BOSTON, BABY!  What else do you expect when I’ve got a Gibson Les Paul with a Rockman Guitar Ace?  Okay, the rock organ and toms (the “blicka-blicka” drums, as my roommate calls them) might help.

May 20, 2004

I went to Best Buy yesterday and spent a couple dollars, so I have some new stuff; which, if you’re familiar with how to browse this site, you will be able to find out what stuff.  I will tell you, however, that I got Guster On Ice: Live From Portland Maine, CD & DVD, a really good concert from an awesome band.

I also recently got a new toy: a Boss PH-3 Phase Shifter pedal, which, as you can hear, when combined with the DD-6, can give a nice, subtle effect to play around with on the new album.  (This clip contains the first teaser of Distraction, some random fiddlings, a taste of the Moved On intro, and a bit of fingerpicked Dust In The Wind.  Pretty!)

May, 15, 2004

Yes, it has been over a month and a half since my last confession … er, update.  I’m happy to report that the collection of songs for Warning: May Contain Nuts is quite substantial now.  I’ve prolifically been writing lyrics, none of which really say anything, which is typical for my style.  However, my attempted wit has churned out an extensive barrage of word-play, the likes of which are hereto unprescedentedly numerous.  But I’m proud of them.  I guess I do have a message, every now and then, that will pop up; but for the most part, don’t pay much attention when all’s said and/or done.

The current list of new songs awaiting music to go with them (asterisk indicates music already composed) and slated to be considered for recording:  Fired For The Rest • Wooden Duck • Altruistic Blame • What The Hell • What’s My Sine? • Posterity • Thief* • Split* • Distraction* • An Amateur’s Lament* • Longing* (an older song, actually) Desert* (another older song) Forsaken To Brood • Five Verses • Summoned (possibly to be a spoken word).

Also, I’d like to report that I now have some music hosted at two other sites, basically functioning in the same way mp3.com did.  garageband.com  download.com

March 27, 2004

Hey, Happy Birthday, Dad!  Take a gander at the latest rendition of the front/back covers to Warning: May Contain Nuts.  Okay, I suppose that’s not much of a present, but it’s all I can do on my website.  Enjoy.  :)

March 25, 2004

I’m sorry I haven’t been saying much here, but I have been hanging out on my blog site lately.  Sure, it’s easier to update.  But the point of why I started it up involves the usage and presentation of content-driven essays, and thoughts on the states of life, living, and the stuff in between; irrelevant or not.  Although I’ve been using it as a venue for posting my latest lyrics and upcoming album artwork, this is still where you’ll find the important updates concerning all things musical.  Cognitive Autostimulation will just have the little extra tidbits, I suppose.

On a more relevant front, I will state here that I got three new DVD’s today.  This is noteworthy because I actually went quite a while without buying anything of a consumer-spending-disposable-income nature.  I now own Fight Club Collector’s Edition, Top Secret!, and the oh-so-special greatest-addition-to-my-collection-in-a-long-time Gigantic: A Tale of Two Johns (A Movie About They Might Be Giants)!  Fun!

March 3, 2004

I am trying my hand at (brace yourselves) Blogging.  I spent the last eight hours or so designing the template and getting it to fit together the way it’s supposed to.  After lots of Shasta Black Cherry drinks and ice cream (not at the same time), it finally is presentable.  So, now, get a load of the semi-non-official unveiling of the next global phenomenon … Cognitive Autostimulation: The Blogger Experience!

February 29, 2004

All Guinness, all empty!I wish you all a Happy Leap Day!  It’s, like, a holiday; although I hardly needed such a special occasion to validate imbibing of mass quantities of Guinness.  Twenty bucks if you can find the Newcastle bottle! (That’s $20 you owe me, just to be clear.)

I didn’t watch that award show.  I tend not to care much.  However, the two particular nominees I wanted to win, didn’t.  (The song “A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow” from A Mighty Wind, and Danny Elfman for the Big Fish score.)

February 23, 2004

In addition to the shoddy printing job for the liner notes (yes, that crease has two folds) the disc itself, upon listening, has no fewer than 11 anomalies (including a surge of garbled noise at the beginning of the first track) in the reproduction.  The master disc I sent Cafepress was previewed and perfect (and you all know the stickler I am for quality!) and yet both discs I received contain the anomalies.  Believe me, scratches or dirt cannot produce the digital effect goofs these copies contain.

Buy at your own risk.  I’m not going to promote it any more.

February 20, 2004

You can now buy a copy of Hand Gestures & Sarcasm for your very own.  It includes complete lyrics, full artwork, shrink-wrapped jewel case packaging, and everything else a professional album should.  Support independent music today!  Or, read more first!

Also available are nifty “Filler Track” label stickers and an 11"x17" lyric poster for decorating your home or office!

February 6, 2004

Have you seen my new Cognitive Autostimulation poster?  Buy one today!

I love the baby cat! He's a fuzzy boy!February 1, 2004

This is me and my favoritest cat in the whole world, Sagan.  He’s a good boy and he likes to be held, but not for a long time; at least not as long as it takes to get a camera ready to take a picture of him being held by the people who love him more than anything else in the whole world.  Isn’t he the cutest?  He’s the one with the white fur.

January 16, 2004

Despite the use, odd, of clauses, plenty of new Discs, DVD’s, and Books, nonetheless, to their respective collections, by me, have been appended.  (Trust me on that one.)

January 9, 2004

As you can see, HG&S is available, at least in some form.  Pending the official release at Cafepress.com, the only way to get the album is to request one of the 20 or so remaining copies of the Limited Edition Promotional Disc.  If you know me personally, you either have one already, or have one reserved on your behalf.

I haven’t done it yet, but shortly I will get around to updating the entire site’s references to the new album, indicating its completion, fixing track listings and lyrics on the album page, etc.  Get off my back already, geez!

If you would like to help me promote the album, use either this graphic (which is a variation of the one above, with shadow on white background) or this nice banner …

January 1, 2004

I did it!  Yes, I got the album finished and in a full-length, burned-to-disc version (with hours to spare) in the year 2003.  Which is really what my goal was, despite my many claims that it would be done for the summer (and, subsequently, the many claims that it would be done over the summer; and, consequently, the many claims that it would be done over the fall, by Halloween, on Halloween, for the winter, by Christmas, on Christmas, etc.)

I really should have realized that I can’t sing before I recorded this thing … but then, I, perhaps, should have realized it before I recorded my previous four albums, for that matter.

The “promotional copies” are available (featuring the lovely artwork featured in the last entry) for those of you who: a) know me; b) have already heard developmental stages of these songs, forcibly, for the last several months; c) send me cheques by post; d) all of the above.  Or, you can just wait until the full version (including more artwork and full lyrics) is up and available at Cafepress.com, which may be just a couple weeks away, and you can spend your hard-earned dollars (or whatever local currency you peons subscribe to) and buy it.

For those who want to test the metaphorical waters … Downloads.

Songs To Download, Listen To, And Then Delete

Since I’ve been recording for many years, I have seven albums of material.  This site has many clips and songs available for download on the Music and Albums pages, but here, for your convenience, is a good helping.
