The culmination of eons’ worth of deterministic causality, right here

Main World Bri’ed Gallery:  OneTwoThree Four

My dad met Ian Hunter not too long ago, a rock icon from his youth (and still to this day) and when he (my dad) got his (Ian Hunter’s) autograph, it was referred to on his (my dad’s) website as “The Day The Planets Aligned”.  Astronomical trigonometrics aside, it was an important day for him.

My own personal DTPA happened on October 7, 2003.  One of my favorite authors (and pretty much my favorite still-living author) is Terry Pratchett, most well-known for his Discworld fantasy series, from which his new book Monstrous Regiment was the promotional force behind his signing tour, which this time around included several stops in the United States, a rare phenomenon for the U.K.-based wordsmith.  I caught a quick blurb mentioning his appearance at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena, CA in an e-mail newsletter, and I nearly wet myself.

There was very little chance I was going to miss this opportunity.

Here is a partial image-based record of the events of this day, with colorful commentary by myself just above each picture.

Terry Pratchett Signs My Copy of Good Omens
Mr. Pratchett spoke to the fronts of the backs of two people’s heads for a full hour.  Too much coffee made it difficult for him to hold his left hand still.
He really waited until the last minute this time to start writing this book.  Here he is trying to come up with an opening line.  Meanwhile, people wait in line to read it.
I look on, smiling uncontrollably, as he tries a sixth attempt at spelling my name correctly.  His fraternity brother from Bald Brits Anonymous lends moral support in the endeavor.
Even amidst the earthquake-in-progress, Terry points mockingly at me, cleverly hiding is left hand with his right hand, not realizing I had found the trap-door button underneath the desk.
My bestest-friend Gina went with me, and here she is giving him help on just where to put the period.  She’s very smart, after all.
Gina and I, once again, admire my camera at the same exact time, remarkably, as the timer activates the shutter.  I’m glad she attended with me.
This is my perfectly ordinary first-edition copy of Good Omens, a wholly remarkable book.
I received a valuable piece of advice from Mr. Pratchett, in writing, which I will heed, religiously.
