It is the case that I draw lots of
portraits, and as of yet, more portraits have been drawn of Tori
Amos. On Tuesday, September 22, 1998, I went to see her in
concert. I brought some copies of my Tori drawings to give to
her at the Meet & Greet, as well as the original of one of my
nicer ones. For her to sign.
It was rather exhilarating seeing her
in person for the first time (this was my first Tori concert) and
she spent most of her Meet & Greet time talking with the Really
Obsessed fans who hogged their way up front in line. I’m
actually surprised I got my stack of papers handed up to her, but
they then got buried among all the other crap people brought to give
her.
I’m
snapping away pictures when all of a sudden Tori looks up and out
toward the crowd, holds up my drawing, and asks who did it.
The next few moments were a complete blur as Tori commented that I
was extremely talented (the only coherent part of the
“conversation” I seemed to have remembered), signed the
drawings, and handed it back.
This photograph was taken by another
attendee of the Meet & Greet named Jessica. It didn’t
come to my attention until years later. She happened to come
across an earlier incarnation of my Tori site, The
Other Side of the Galaxy, wherein I had posted original
scans of all my Tori drawings. A particular drawing looked
familiar to her and it came to be discovered that she recalled
taking this photo with a drawing, held by Tori, from before some
concert, that was the same drawing that was scanned on this
website. Wow!
Long story shorter than it could be:
I was mailed this photograph and was very happy. And here is a
scan of the signed drawing, with the ticket stub as well.
